Why are People Mean?
People are mean because of Fear.
Fear is the opposite of love. If they were expressing love then they couldn’t be mean.
How do you get them to express love? By expressing love yourself.
This can be very difficult when you feel like you have been wronged in some way, when you have been hurt or abused.
Some people are down right cruel.
We want to hurt the other person back, we want to lash out, this is understandable but it doesn’t help.
It just perpetuates the fear; yours and theirs.
What are people who are mean afraid of anyway?
So many things...
They are afraid of being rejected, so they reject first.
They are afraid of getting hurt, so they hurt first.
They are afraid of not being popular, so they do what they think will make them popular. In their misguided minds they think that being cruel is cool.
They don’t want the other person to get to know them because they don’t like themselves.
And of course the classic...
Their Self-Image is so low that the only way they know how to elevate it is by trying to bring down the people around them.
These are some of the answers to the question: Why are People Mean?
But at the root is Fear.
Love knows no boundaries.
Love knows no fight.
Love knows no war.
Love knows no other way than Love.
If we can’t Love ourselves then how can we expect others to love us?
If we can’t extend Love to others then how can we expect them to extend Love to us?
Love has wisdom, Love has grace, Love propagates more Love.
It is an all consuming field of energy that envelopes the Souls of those around you and extends out into the Universe.
So the next time someone is mean to you just send them your Love and understanding that they are in pain.
This should not be confused with being a doormat or not standing up for what you believe in.
You can still choose to send Love and at the same time choose not to have this person in your life.
You can choose to send Love and still disagree with someone.
This was the magic that Gandhi had; he could stand up for justice but he never forgot the human side of the situation.
“Hate the deed, not the doer” is one of Gandhi's famous quotes.
With all due respect to my hero Gandhi, I really don’t like the word hate. While we are on the subject of Love how about we make a slight modification?
“Love the doer, not the deed”
